1100 Year Old Mickey Mouse
Sebuah artifak kuno berumur 1100 tahun yang memiliki bentuk mirip karakter kartun terkenal Disney, Mickey Mouse telah ditemukan di Kawasan Uppakra,5 KM disebelah selatan Lund, Swedia.
Artifak kecil yang terbuat dari bahan perunggu ini diperkirakan merupakan aksesoris baju/bros yang digunakan orang2 pada masa itu. Menurut Jerry Rosenberg,kepala penggalian situs purbakala di Uppakra, Ia beserta rekan2-nya setidaknya telah menemukan 20.000 artifak2 unik di situs tsb, dan penggalian masih akan diteruskan sampai beberapa bulan kedepan. Saat ini,artifak unik yang berasal dari zaman besi itu telah terpajang dan tersimpan dengan baik di Historical Museeum Lund.

MICKEY MOUSE
Mickey Mouse adalah karakter kartun yang menjadi ikon bagi The Walt Disney Company yang diciptakan oleh Ub Iwerks pada 1920-an. Mickey Mouse telah berkembang dari sekedar tokoh animasi menjadi salah satu simbol yang terkenal di dunia. Dalam beberapa kartun Mickey awal, suaranya diisi oleh Walt Disney sendiri.
Miki sebagai ikon
Karakter Miki Tikus menjadi sebuah simbol bagi Amerika terutama dalam penyebaran budaya AS ke berbagai belahan dunia dan menjadi lambang keceriaan. Miki menjadi simbol The Walt Disney Company dan diri Walt Disney sendiri seperti diutarakan oleh istri Walt, Lillian. Miki dan Walt berkembang bersama dan menjadi cermin kepribadian mereka. Presiden AS Jimmy Carter pernah mengatakan "Mickey Mouse is the symbol of goodwill, surpassing all languages and cultures. When one sees Mickey Mouse, they see happiness." (Miki Tikus adalah simbol kebaikan melampaui semua bahasa dan budaya. Saat seseorang melihat Miki, ia melihat keceriaan)

Gambar ini juga muncul secara samar dalam berbagai film kartun Disney dan atraksi di taman hiburan Disney
Penciptaan dan debut
Awalnya, Miki dibuat sebagai pengganti Oswald the Lucky Rabbit yang dibuat oleh Walt Disney dan Ub Iwerks untuk Charles Mintz dari Universal Studios namun mereka dipecat saat meminta anggaran yang lebih tinggi untuk Oswald yang populer dan sejak itu Oswald digambar oleh orang lain.
Untuk kesinambungan perusahaan, Walt harus mencari karakter baru dan ide tentang Miki Tikus muncul saat Walt berada di atas kereta. Nama karakter tersebut sebelum dinamai Miki adalah Mortimer namun istrinya, Lillian Disney, kurang menyukainya. Sekarang, nama Mortimer Tikus dipakai untuk karakter musuh Miki dalam memperebutkan Mini Tikus.
Miki dan Mini Tikus muncul untuk pertama kali dalam Plane Crazy yang dirilis pada 15 Mei 1928. Namun, The Walt Disney Company kemudian merayakan "hari lahir" Miki Tikus pada 18 November 1928, yaitu tanggal rilis animasi Steamboat Willie, film animasi Miki Tikus yang pertama kali menggunakan suara.
Miki Tikus mencapai kejayaannya dimulai dari tahun 1930-an sampai 1950-an. Namun, diawal tahun 1950-an posisi kejayaannya lambat laun tergeser oleh Tom and Jerry yang mempunyai rating dan penggemar lebih tinggi dari Miki Tikus dan Silly Symphonies. Pada tahun 1955, kejayaan Miki Tikus benar-benar tergeser oleh rekannya yang sama-sama berada di Walt Disney, Donald Duck yang juga mempunyai penggemar lebih banyak dari Miki.
Sejarah
1970-an - sekarang
Pada 18 November 1978, bertepatan dengan ulang tahun Miki ke-50, ia menjadi karakter kartun pertama yang mendapatkan sebuah bintang di Hollywood Walk of Fame, tepatnya di 6925 Hollywood Boulevard. Pada 1988, untuk pertama kalinya Miki tampil bersama Bugs Bunny dalam Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Bugs Bunny adalah salah satu pesaing Miki dari Warner Bros. dalam film itu, keduanya memiliki waktu muncul yang benar-benar sama. Film itu juga menjadi sebuah peristiwa bersejarah dalam dunia perfilman.
Program-program televisi yang menampilkan Miki di masa ini adalah Mickey Mouse Works dan Disney's House of Mouse sedangkan beberapa film Miki di tahun-tahun ini antara lain Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983), Runaway Brain (1995), dan The Three Musketeers serta Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas (2004).
Miki juga ambil bagian dalam video game Kingdom Hearts garapan Disney Interactive dan Square Enix sebagai raja istana Disney dengan Mini Tikus sebagai ratunya, Donal Bebek sebagai penyihir, dan Gufi sebagai kepala penjaga istana. Di dalam game pertama, Miki belum terlalu banyak muncul, namun di sekuel Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories untuk Game Boy Advance, Miki sudah mulai muncul dan diperkirakan akan memainkan peran yang lebih besar di Kingdom Hearts II.
